Acupuncture and Traditional Medicine have been helping people treat illness and stay healthy for centuries. This holistic model of medicine treats the person as a whole physical, emotional and spiritual being. It is an ancient system that perfectly complements a modern lifestyle seeking balance and health.
A holistic approach to taking care of our health means that in addition to focusing on alleviating pain and symptoms, we broaden our awareness to include the wide range of factors that effect our health. This includes family, community, home, work, food, daily activities, emotions, and spirituality. Understanding all of these factors allow us to make healthy choices that bring balance to all aspects of our lives. Simply put, holistic wellness is living inspired by health.
Tamsen Staniford, L.Ac.
Motivated by a life long passion for medicine, health and wellness, I chose to study Oriental Medicine at Pacific College of Oriental Medicine in San Diego, California. PCOM is well known for its rigorous training program emphasizing science, herbal medicine, and integrative care. My studies also focused on the Japanese Meridian style of acupuncture in the traditions of Ikeda Masakazu Sensei and Shuddo Denmei Sensei. During my training I completed three rotations at the San Diego Hospice and the Institute for Palliative Medicine’s Inpatient Care Center. After receiving a graduate degree in Traditional Oriental Medicine I returned to Northern California where I began my private practice and worked with Quan Yin Healing Arts Center providing community acupuncture to supportive housing residences. I choose to focus my continuing education on preventative medicine, palliative care, integrative medicine, and nutrition. I am also studying Japanese and finishing prerequisite courses to apply to nursing school.
Previously, I trained in massage therapy and bodywork at the National Holistic Institute, and have been refining my own spiritual practices for many years. I am also a level 1 Reiki Practitioner.
You will find me enjoying days off hiking around Mt. Tamalpais with my family, visiting Baker Beach, reading and watching science fiction, or enjoying my back yard.
